I love old books

I love the look of them, the smell of them, the feel of them. One day, I want a whole room full of them, with high ceilings, and a sliding ladder.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

within these walls...

I recently had to pull down everything i had blu-tacked to my wall (landlord wont allow it) got me thinking about the many incarnations of collages that i've had over my walls, and how everytime i move house, or find new pictures or change my mind, it evolves.
Here's one incarnation of it, from my wagga days.
(L-R missy higgins, leelee sobieski, moulin rouge canvas
which my mum scrapbooked, mask, and one of my paintings
all draped with my super-cool black rose fairy-lights)
Of course i'm not the only one out there with a wall collage... and i love perving on other people's walls of love.

Thought I'd share a few examples from around the interwebs...

Been having a very strawberry flavoured day today, Listening to the across the universe soundtrack (which i recently bought myself) and baking itty bitty strawberry cupcakes.

Art by Sarabeth Zales (http://sezales.blogspot.com/)
There's one sequence in across the universe where Jude is making this big artwork by pinning rows of strawberries onto a canvas, and letting the juice
(blood) drip down. In the context of the film, its a really effective scene. Gotta love Julie Taymor's artistic vision there...

Also been getting a bit creative today, working on a plushie of Gir from invader zim. I'll post some photos when i get them!

Florence and the machine

Love her music, but more specifically love the film clip for "rabbit heart (raise it up)"
ahhh, so much prettyness and whimsy...  just makes me want to don something lacy and have my own little tea-party. And i've never been one to object to a lad in a tophat!

what i'm talkin 'bout:

New beginnings...

So, the start of something beautiful, i hope. I plan to use this blog as something of a stockpile of inspiration things i see, things i love, things i want to share with the world. And I hope others will be just as inspired too!

Today i've been planning my halloween costume, and its gotten me into a bit of a Frida Kahlo mood. She was an absolutely amazing mexican surrealist and portrait artist, with an undeniable sense of style and natural beauty. In every photo and portrait you see of her, she always seems so strong and at the same time, graceful. Heres what i mean:
the beautiful Frida Kahlo

Her art has always inspired me, because every one of her works is a symbolic outpouring of emotions and she was never afraid to linger on the darker side (in fact, she had quite the fascination with sexuality, and death- things she dealt with alot in her short but very full life)...

One of my favourites of hers:
"What the water gave me"- 1938
